Cypress wood siding lumber is exceptionally resistant to decay and insects making it an ideal choice for the wood home exterior applications, especially where dampness may be of concern, such as in the shade. Board and Batten Siding (aka
"Barn Siding")
|
Board and Batten is used for
both exterior siding and interior paneling. The narrow
strips are called batten and together with the wide
boards we call this board and batten. The board
and batten alternate by placing the narrow batten strips
over the seams between the wider batten boards.
You can place the boards vertically or horizontally.
Vertical positioning of the boards is the most common
positioning and use of board and batten siding in
architectural design. In either case, you'll
fasten the boards on blocking lines with a nail in the
center and the batten is to be placed between the two
boards overlapping both boards. Do not nail the
batten onto the boards but onto the blocking line behind
it.
Board and batten siding is also known as barn siding,
since a lot of the barns in the USA are made with this
type of design. |
